Me & My Vices
By Jay Hubbard of Your Friend
My vices are coffee, sometimes food, & ... shameful excitement over images of beauty. I can't know what's wrong with coffee ... probably similar to what's wrong with food---too much of ANYTHING is bad for ya (even 'exciting images of beauty'). If you fill your mind with those images (without some supernatural overtone attached to them in order to keep them securely in the realm of fantasy), you will be sorely disappointed with reality ... Maybe that's what Buddha MEANS when He says "Life is suffering." That is truly just a shoddy translation of what He says; what He says is actually more like "Life is 'sorely disappointing'," knowing that the human mind is powerful enough to move the human body to do ANYTHING but -that the human body is not strong enough to reach the goals the human mind sets it to, not fast enough to fulfill the tasks before rot-&-decay set in. That is why the carnal mind 'loves' the images: because--as Phil Collins sings in "Anything She Does" ("You know ... that in twenty years or more ... you'll still look the same ... as you do today.")--those images are the closest things these carnal bodies will know to 'eternal life.' Truly, my grandfather carries the young-girl image of his now-wife with him & superimposes on her whenever they interact ... it's still "her" & nobody else, but the truth-in-their-minds doesn't match the truth-in-the-world. |

Thank you for sharing your images, Jay. Our minds hold images of tomorrow, today and years gone by. Just one big filing cabinet! Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Glad to be of service. I suppose I ought to mention that the woman pictured is NOT my grandfather's wife (as far as I know LoL); she's simply a very pretty finance-manager whose appearance is pleasing.
